DEERRUN-(1-of-1)

BRILLION – Get the clubs ready, and get ready for a new era.

Deer Run Golf Course in Brillion is reopening under new ownership today (Thursday) at 10 a.m.

This news comes as a great relief to local golfers, who worried about the future of the course after the bank took over ownership last fall.

The bank had taken over for Lee Reinke, who stepped away from the course after 17 years of ownership, citing financial and emotional reasons for handing the course over after disastrous flooding episodes hit the course in 2008 and 2010.

With no successor lined up to take over, some area golfers feared the course may not reopen this year – or ever if a worst case scenario came into play.

Today, however, all those worries were erased as tees pierce through tee box grass for the first time since last November.

Glen and Jill Braun are the new owners that have stepped in.

The Brauns live in the Reedsville area and have two sons that attend Brillion schools, and are excited to carry on Deer Run’s legacy for local golfers.

“We’re very excited to work with the community and meet the community,” Glen said.

Thursday’s reopening will only feature a few holes open to start (roughly five), and golfers may golf them for just $5 for the first few days as the rest of the course is finished and ready for play. Carts will cost $7 during this initial run.

Glen is optimistic about the future of Deer Run, and hopes to carry on its long-standing legacy and tradition.

Deer Run is a 9-hole course, which features 3,160 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 36. Designed by Gene Olm, the Deer Run golf course opened in 1964.

Glen also said his dad, and his Uncle Marvin, have and will continue to play a big role in this new venture in his life.

“If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be able to do this. I give my uncle Marvin a lot of thanks, and my dad, too. Their work ethic and their support mean a lot,” he said.

The new phone number for Deer Run is 920-875-0544.
