BRILLION – Tonight neighborhoods throughout Brillion and Reedsville are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the annual “National Night Out” (NNO) crime and drug prevention event.
The night will feature an Xbox One giveaway, a drone demonstration, police canine unit, face painting, games and hot dogs until supplies last.
NNO, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored by the Brillion and Reedsville Police Departments, will involve more than 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian Cities and military bases around the world. More than 37 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime.”
From 5 to 7 p.m. on August 1, residents in neighborhoods throughout Brillion and Reedsville are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police at Peters Park in Brillion.
“We are excited about this event. Our National Night Out event started in 2009 by Officer James McGrath. Officer McGrath passed away after a battle with cancer but he loved this night, he loved being with the community and having fun and we enjoy carrying on the tradition he started. This year we have moved the event to Peters Park and we will be bringing in a balloon artist, bounce house, dunk tank – with several officers taking their turn in the tank, emergency vehicles and more,” Brillion Police Chief Jo Ann Mignon said. “This is a free event for families and is intended to create general support for anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhoods and promote crime prevention and awareness strategies. We enjoy having time to talk with our community members and look forward to seeing everyone each year.”
