BRILLION – Brillion City Council has given Ariens Company the “go ahead” on the project to redevelop the Brillion Iron Works (BIW) site.
A special Tuesday night joint meeting of Brillion City Council, the Redevelopment Authority Commission (RDA) and the Plan Commission resulted in a yes vote from council that they are behind the Ariens Company’s plans for the site once the purchase of the property is final.
Ariens Company President and CEO Dan Ariens and other company representatives were part of a closed session with the city groups that lasted almost exactly one hour. When open session reconvened, council approved the backing of the plan. Details of the city’s involvement as well as the future of the site have still not been made public.
“We continued to make progress trying to get to an opportunity where the city can get a little better control of the Brillion Iron Works site, and I think the city and the RDA were in support of the plan that we’re working together on,” Ariens said.
Ariens and the RDA entered a Memorandum of Understanding in November to work together to purchase the property. Since then, very few details have been become common knowledge.
Tuesday was the first that council members were able to hear details for the future of the site. City Administrator Lori Gosz says that the public should be hearing updates within the next couple of weeks.
Members of the council left the meeting with positive body language, while Mayor Gary Deiter said the meeting accomplished exactly what they needed to.
