WRIGHTSTOWN – Wrightstown basketball star Kailee Van Zeeland became the school’s all-time leading scorer in Thursday night’s home win against Freedom.
The senior surpassed Danielle Nennig’s girls’ team record of 1,142 early in the first half. The game was momentarily stopped to honor Van Zeeland with a commemorative ball.
Nennig, now second place all-time, and Alisha Murphy (1,102 points; now fourth place) were both 2017 graduates. Mary Verbeten (1,140; 1980-1984) moves to third all-time. Verbeten, Nennig, Murphy and Van Zeeland are the only four girls in school history to surpass 1,000 points.
Van Zeeland also has a chance to become the all-time leading scorer including the boys. Zac Haese (1,181; 2013-2016) currently leads all scorers.
More information, including reaction from Van Zeeland and Head Coach Mike Froehlke, will be featured in the February 15, 2018 edition of The Brillion News.
