Brewers need to throw Gagne a going-away party
By Chris Havel
Oh, the shame of it all.
No, shame on the Milwaukee Brewers’ general manager, Doug Melvin, and manager Ned Yost, for failing to look without seeing. Eric Gagne is kaput. He’s finished. He’s washed up. He’s toast. He’s no longer a major-league caliber pitcher.
Gagne’s idea of a 1-2-3 inning is hoping the opposing hitters slam their rocket shots directly at a Brewers’ defender.
Not to make light of a serious situation, but the truth is Hurricane Gustav posed no greater threat to New Orleans than Hurricane Gagne does to the Brewers’ playoff chances. At least Gustav was a natural disaster, and not nearly as terrible as predicted, which is more than the alleged post-HGH/steroids Gagne can say.
That is when he’s talking to the media.
According to reports, a moot Gagne stormed out of the Brewers’ clubhouse after facilitating the Mets’ three-run eighth inning during Monday’s 4-2 loss.
