Precision manure application field day set for July 18

TOWN OF CHILTON
 
– The University of Wisconsin Division of Extension is hosting an Advanced
 
Nutrient Management Technology and Application Field Day at 10 a.m. on
 
Thursday, July 18, at the corner of Calumet
 
County BB
 
and Custer Road, southwest
 
of Hilbert.

It is being hosted by Holsum
 
Dairies. Producers, manure applicators and agency staff will learn about the
 
latest precision manure application technology, explore manure side-dress
 
plots, and see new equipment technology demonstrated.

The field day will feature
 
demonstrations and discussions from John Deere and Vanderloop Equipment of
 
their nutrient sensing and automatic application shutoff technology, Right Way Application’s
 
manure dragline diversion technology and In Depth Agronomy’s Mobile Hazard
 
Maps, among others. Presentations on manure nutrient availability, side-dressing
 
standing corn with manure and precision technology will round out the event.

A walk-through of side
 
dressed corn trials will be led by Riesterer & Schnell’s Integrated
 
Solutions Manager discussing soil samples, stand counts, and data yet to
 
come. Manure application will be carried out by Dvorachek Farm and
 
Industry and Phil’s Pumping and Fabrication.

Trials include:

• Draglined V2-V4 corn
 
against rows

• Draglined V2-V4 corn with
 
rows

• Side dressed corn with
 
variable rate measuring NPK and solids

• Side dressed corn with
 
cover crops planted during manure application

• Side dressed corn with
 
cover crops planted before manure application

• Top dressed corn with
 
Agrometer

• Commercial fertilizer
 
application
