MORRISON – The Brown County Sheriff’s Department Fire Investigation unit was at the scene of an overnight house fire this morning.
The fire seemed suspicious from the first dispatch, when firefighters were warned that someone at the home in the 7000-block of County W, on the north end of the borough of Morrison, might not be welcoming to officers.
The house is about three blocks from the Morrison Vol. Fire Department station.
The first fire crew on scene reported no smoke or flames showing, but a closer inspection found the two-story home filled with smoke and a Morrison FD officer declared it a working fire. Firefighters from Wayside, Greenleaf and Reedsville also responded under mutual aid.
The first fire call came in around 2:45 a.m. About 45 minutes later, a rescue squad was sent to a home on Blake Road – about three miles from the fire scene – where a person believed to have been involved in the fire was reported injured.
After sunrise, the arson squad’s mobile lab was on scene and the house was surrounded by barrier tape.
