The Brillion News

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday, July 23, passed a legislative amendment - offered by Congressman Bryan Steil, R-Wisconsin, and Congressman

Peter Welch, D-Vermont - that provides $5 million for the Dairy Business Innovation Initiative, a program that allows dairy farmers and dairy businesses to modernize their industry.

Steil said the legislation will help the dairy industry develop new products, and markets for them.

“The Dairy Business Innovation Initiative is a critical program that helps dairy farmers diversify into new value-added dairy products, and will spur the growth of artisan cheesemakers," said Dr. John Lucey, Director of the Center for Dairy Research and Professor of Food Science at UW-Madison. "This is especially important with the challenging times that the dairy industry is currently facing,”
