Brillion fire chief to retire in 2016

BRILLION – Brillion Fire Chief Rich Janke announced at Monday’s City Council meeting that he will be retiring from his position on Dec. 31, 2016.

When that day comes, it will mark the end of a 12-year run as local fire chief, as well as roughly 32 years total as a Brillion firefighter.

In other fire department news, Janke presented a laundry list of pressing equipment needs facing the department at Monday’s meeting.

“My goal was, to inform the city of the equipment and how we’re looking to replace this equipment in the coming future,” he said, and noted he’s tried to put together 5- and 10-year projection plans in the past for city leaders to keep them abreast of when some of these items would be reaching replacement time.

Regardless, the city funding for these needs is lacking, according to Janke, noting he feels cuts were made to his department in recent years when his drafted plans cautioned that money should be set aside for gear and equipment replacements.
