Brown County robbery was fake report

The Brillion News

BELLEVUE - Brown County Sheriff's investigators have determined that a "victim" made up a report of a robbery.

Captain David Poteat said the Brown County Sheriff’s Office released information on Saturday, February 22, concerning an attempted robbery that was reported in the 2100 block of South Webster Avenue in the Village of Allouez - just north of De Pere.

This case was assigned to an investigator.

"After further investigation and a subsequent statement from the reporting person, we have determined that there was no attempted robbery and we are no longer seeking any suspects in this case," Poteat said on Wednesday, February 26.

Poteat said there was no knife displayed and the reporting person never retrieved his gun.

This robbery case will be closed out and the sheriff's department will notify the district attorney about the false information provided to officers. That could result in criminal charges.

The sheriff's department is not releasing the names or additional information until the District Attorney’s Office has reviewed deputies' reports.
