WRIGHTSTOWN – Lee Mierow’s career in education began in teaching chemistry and physics, and that’s where it’s headed now that he is retiring after many years in educational administration as principal of Wrightstown Elementary School and then Wrightstown Middle School.

Mierow started with the Wrightstown Community School District as a science teacher. He and his wife, Kelly, moved to the area so she could be closer to her family. Kelly – the former Kelly Kabat – grew up in Brillion.

Mierow has shied away from the limelight, but at last week’s school board meeting, it fell on him anyway when Brian Mathu asked to address the school board.

Mathu and his family live in Wrightstown, but he teaches at New London High School.

“Lee was principal at the elementary school when my sons were here, and he went to the middle school with them,” Mathu said.

He shared a conversation he had with Mierow several years ago at a track meet.

The two were talking near the high jump, where a girl was struggling to do well.
