WRIGHTSTOWN – Interstate 41 was shut down for over four hours after a semi-tanker carrying aluminum sulfate crashed and overturned before 4 a.m. Monday, June 15.
The chemical is used in papermaking and can be hazardous. It is commonly known as “alum” and is also used in water purification.
During the incident, traffic on 41 – northbound and southbound – was detoured over County S and County U. I-41 was closed to all traffic between the Wrightstown exit and the Freedom exit, until the cleanup was complete. The truck driver was hurt, but not critically, and was transported to a hospital.
