MANITOWOC – Sneak thieves are prowling southern Manitowoc County and stealing stuff from vehicles.

Deputy Inspector Jason Orth, with the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department, said a complaint of suspicious activity in the rural Cleveland area turned up a number of vehicles that had been entered and from which items of value were stolen.

Investigators have identified several “persons of interest” and are working to bring suspects to justice. Deputies are also asking for anyone who may have had a theft from a vehicle, but had not reported it, to call the sheriff’s department’s non-emergency phone at 920-683-4201.

Orth highly recommends that people keep vehicles locked, and be vigilant for prowlers.

Crime prevention experts suggest bright exterior lighting on driveways and around homes and outbuildings as a theft and prowling deterrent. Items of value should not be left in vehicles unless locked out of sight from prowlers.
