Wienke’s jams, jellies being recalled

MADISON – Wienke’s Market, located in Algoma, is voluntarily recalling all of their lines of jams and jellies, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) announced today.

The product includes butter, a known milk allergen that is not declared on the label. The butter was added during processing of the jams and jellies. Milk can cause serious reactions in people with an allergy or severe sensitivity.

No illnesses have been reported from consuming this product. The product is safe to consume by those who do not have an allergy or intolerance to milk. The products are sold in 8-ounce and 16-ounce containers.

The recall applies to products purchased before January 17, 2018. All products were sold in grocery stores and specialty shops throughout Wisconsin and through internet sales.

Consumers who have any of these products may return them to the place of purchase or discard them. Consumers with questions about this recall can contact Wienke’s Market, Inc. at (920) 743-7014 or at recall@wienke.com.

This is a Class II recall, which means that the product could cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or that the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.

Symptoms of a food allergy may include swelling, itching or irritation of the mouth, nose, throat, eyes and skin; difficulty breathing; cramps, nausea or vomiting; diarrhea; or anaphylaxis. While most people do not have food allergies, anyone who eats a specific food and experiences symptoms should consult a doctor.
