TOWN OF FRANKIN – Two boys hunting blackbirds ended in tragedy on Sunday when 13-year old Kordell Dvorachek of Reedsville was killed.
Manitowoc County Coroner Curtis Green said the shooting was accidental.
Sheriff Robert Hermann said his department received a report, at about 12:30 Sunday afternoon, that a boy had been shot while hunting with a friend in a rural area just east of Reedsville.
Deputies responded along with Valders Ambulance and Reedsville EMS First Responders.
The coroner’s office was then called.
Hermann said it appeared that Dvorachek was hunting blackbirds with a 12-year old friend when, according to Green, the younger boy’s gun “accidentally discharged” with the shell “striking Kordell in the upper torso.”
EMS personnel at the scene tried to resuscitate the boy, but they were not successful and Dvorachek was pronounced dead upon his arrival at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center in Manitowoc.
