TOWN OF MAPLE GROVE – Manitowoc County Sheriff Dan Hartwig said his deputies affected the capture of a man and woman fleeing Brown County deputies in a stolen vehicle.
It happened on Thursday, March 26, and began at 5:35 p.m. when the Manitowoc County Sheriffs Department was asked to assist Brown County deputies with a pursuit of a stolen 2008 Ford pickup truck that had been reported stolen from Chicago, Illinois.
Manitowoc County deputies took over the pursuit within the Town of Maple Grove. It went south through Collins and into the Town of Eaton
The driver of the stolen truck was later identified as Michael Link, 36, from Green Bay. His Brown County Jail booking photo accompanies this story.
The chase ended in the Town of Eaton when he pulled off from State 67 and into a field, where the truck got stuck.
Link fled from the vehicle on foot but was captured within 100 yards of the vehicle. His passenger, 33-year-old Ashley De Groot, remained with the truck and was taken into custody without incident.
Both Link and De Groot were turned over to Brown County sheriff’s deputies.
The chase spanned 26 miles and reached about 80 miles per hour in Manitowoc County.
