Arson investigators look at area fires

The Brillion News

ST. ANNA – A fire, first reported around 1:50 a.m. on Sunday, March 22, destroyed a barn used primarily as a woodworking shop.

It happened in the Town of Russell in Sheboygan County on Turba Court. That’s about nine miles south of Chilton and six miles west of Kiel.

The problem is this: there have been a series of suspicious fires in the area that began on March 19.

The St. Anna Fire Department called for help, with fire departments from Calumet, Sheboygan and Fond du Lac counties responding under mutual aid, most providing tankers to truck water to the scene, just south of County Q – which forms the Calumet-Sheboygan county line.

There were a cow and calf in the barn at the time of the fire, but their fate isn't known.

The building was a total loss, and the fire remains under investigation.

It was the sixth of several late-night/early-morning fires in the area.

The other five were in Fond du Lac County, but the Turba Road fire is close to the Sheboygan-Fond du Lac county line.

The other five fires took place on Thursday, March 19, at 3 a.m.; and on Friday, March 20 at 12:30, 4:31, 5:07 and 8:58 a.m.

The Wisconsin State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating those fires, at least three of which appear to have been cases of arson.

The state arson tip line is 1-800-362-3005.
