Bazaar After Dark set for May 11

BRILLION – The Bazaar After Dark event will take place in Brillion on Saturday, May 11, from 5-10 p.m.

Brillion City Council approved the permit for the event during Monday night’s special city council meeting.

The details for specific streets and logistics with businesses were still being ironed out in recent weeks. The event will take place on Main Street (Jackson to West Water) and West Water Street (Main to Carstens Mill).

Main Street will be closed at 2 p.m. on the day of the event. A detour route will be on Jackson Street and South Custer Street.

“We spent a great deal of time … trying to figure out what the best thing would be. There was a lot of concern with the businesses closing on that Saturday before Mother’s Day,” Brillion Police Chief Jo Ann Mignon said.

Calumet Street will remain open so the Brillion Police, Fire and Emergency units will not be blocked in. Vendors for the event plan to use parking there, too.

Bazaar After Dark is an event from the Fox Cities that’s billed as a night market with a variety of entertainment and attractions. It will take place at the conclusion of Habitat for Humanity’s Rock the Block event that is scheduled for the same weekend.

The event has drawn large audiences in other cities in the past. Mignon says that parking will be available at the site of the former Brillion Iron Works.

“A lot of times what you see is people drop off a car load of people and then they go and park,” Mignon said.

Event organizers also expect that people will come and go all night.

Chilton High School is holding its prom at Carstens Mill that same night. Mignon says that they are working to have a separation between the two events.

“I think we’ve communicated with just about everybody that we need to,” Mignon said.
