Bicyclist killed near Meeme

MANITOWOC – A 68-year old rural Kiel man was killed Monday afternoon when the bicycle he was riding was struck by a car driven by a Manitowoc woman.

It happened around 3:40 p.m. on Manitow0c County XX, about a half-mile west of State 42 in the Town of Meeme.

Manitowoc County Sheriff Dan Hartwig said bicyclist Robert Keith Hughes was flown from the scene by ThedaStar EMS helicopter to the ThedaCare Regional Trauma Center in Neenah, where he died.

The driver of the car, 27-year old Brittni Joy Diedrich, was headed east on XX when her car struck Hughes’ bicycle, which was also headed east.

The sheriff’s department, State Patrol and Manitowoc County Coroner are all involved in the investigation. Valders Ambulance, Valders Fire Department, Cleveland EMS First Responders and Cleveland Fire Department also attended to the emergency.
