Deadly crash near Two Rivers

TOWN OF TWO RIVERS - It was a deadly crash at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, when a car ran a stop sign and was struck by a pickup truck - killing the driver of the car and critically-injuring two young children, both passengers in her car.

Killed was 31-year old Kristen VanDeVoort of Kimberly.

Her 2010 Chevy Impala was eastbound on Manitowoc County V-V, failed to stop for a stop sign and was hit by a 2019 Dodge Ram 2500 that was southbound on State 42.

The crash scene is just north of the Two Rivers Washington High School campus.


Two passengers in the Impala, a seven-year old boy and an eight-year old girl, suffered severe injuries and were airlifted by EMS helicopter to St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay.


The driver of the pickup was 71-year old George Dearborn of Appleton.


He and his passenger, 69-year old Wendy Dearborn of Appleton, suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to Holy Family Memorial Hospital in Manitowoc for emergency care.


Attending to the needs at the crash were the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Department, Two Rivers City Fire Department, Town of Two Rivers Fire Department, Mishicot Ambulance, Mishicot Fire Department, Wisconsin DNR, Francis Creek Fire Department, Two Creeks Fire Department, Flight for Life, ThedaStar. Two Rivers Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Brown County Sheriff's Department, Manitowoc County Highway Department, Two Rivers Department of Public Works and Hi-Way 42 Garage. Response management and emergency communications were coordinated by the Manitowoc County Joint Dispatch Center.


"On behalf of our Sheriff's Office, I would like to offer our deepest condolences to all those affected by this tragic incident," Manitowoc County Sheriff Dan Hartwig wrote in a press statement.
