Devils River crash kills Green Bay man

MARIBEL – A 22-year old Green Bay man was killed on the evening of Wednesday, December 26, when the car in which he was a passenger, plunged down an embankment and rolled. It happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. on I-43, in the Town of Cooperstown in Manitowoc County.

The car, driven by a 19-year old Green Bay woman, left the northbound lanes of the freeway, went into the median, crashed through a fence and guardrail, and rolled on its way down a steep embankment. It ended up next to the Devils River.

Sheriff’s Deputy Inspector Jason Orth said the right front seat passenger was dead at the scene. The driver and a baby in a rear-facing child seat, were taken to the Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay with non-life threatening injuries. All were under restraints.

Names were withheld by the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department, which is investigating the accident together with the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Manitowoc County Coroner’s Office. Other agencies attending to needs at the scene were the Maribel Fire Department, Kellnersville Fire Department, Menchalville Fire Department, Mishicot Ambulance, Mishicot Police Department, Manitowoc County EMS First Responders and the Manitowoc County Highway Department.
