Fire strikes farm south of Hilbert

Posted at 6:40 a.m. on October 29, 2021

TOWN OF CHILTON - The Hilbert Fire Department was dispatched to a possible barn fire just south of the village at 5 a.m. on Friday, October 29.

It turned out to be the real thing, and within a few minutes, Hilbert Fire had activated the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System, with help coming from fire departments throughout Calumet County.

The fire struck a barn at a farm at State 57/32 and Schneider Road, about three miles south of the Hilbert village limits.

The Calumet County Sheriff's Department closed off 57/32 to all but emergency traffic.

Shortly after arriving on the scene, Hilbert Fire called for an aerial ladder truck from Chilton, which sprayed water onto the fire from above.

Emergency traffic on area roads was steady as fire crews trucked in water from several fill sites, including from one in the Village of Hilbert near Sargento Foods.
