TOWN OF RANTOUL - The Potter Fire Department responded after 1 p.m. on Friday, March 19, to a grass fire on Riverview Road in eastern Rantoul.

The fire was near outbuildings at a farmstead and was quickly knocked down.

It was the first grass fire of the spring wildfire season for Potter firefighters.

The DNR's fire danger map (https://dnr.wi.gov/topic/ForestFire/restrictions.asp) shows "high fire danger" levels in the middle "belt" counties of Wisconsin - including Brown, Calumet, Fond du Lac, Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Kewaunee, Outagamie, Door, Waupaca, Waushara and Winnebago.

The high risk of grass fire is expected to remain until there is substantial rain and growth of green plant material.

Any outdoor fires are discouraged by the state Department of Natural Resources at present.
