HILBERT - The Hilbert Village Board has canceled village-sanctioned trick-or-treating.
At its meeting on Tuesday, October 20, the board voted 7-0 to withdraw its sanction that had official trick-or-treat hours in the village set for 3 to 5 p.m. on Halloween, October 31.

The Hilbert Revitalization Group, which in other years sponsored a village-wide Halloween party and costume competition at the Hilbert Community Center, has canceled that event this year as well.
Village President Mark Breckheimer said that some people will still go trick-or-treating, but without the endorsement of the village government.
The action came after the City of Chilton cancelled trick-or-treating. A Hilbert resident asked that Hilbert do the same, fearing the the holiday activity would result in more COVID-19 cases and lead to Hilbert schools going to virtual, rather than in-person, classes.
