BRILLION – Colton Larsen scored on a mid-range shot on the baseline with 4.5 seconds remaining to help lift Brillion to a 50-48 win against previously undefeated Bonduel on Tuesday night.
A 3-point attempt by Bonduel missed as time expired seconds after Larsen’s shot. Larsen broke the tie at 48 moments after the Bears made a 3-point basket when Brillion had a 48-45 lead.
Bonduel was the top-ranked team in the state in Division 4 entering the game.
Last year, the Bears went 28-2 and one of those losses was the state championship. The program didn’t lose a game between the season finale last year and Tuesday in Brillion.
The Bears entered 12-0 and were averaging just under 71 points per game going into the game.
The Lions’ defense limited Bonduel to a season-low in scoring. Brillion’s Landon Mathes started the game at center to help counteract Bonduel senior Ryan Westrich, who’s listed at 6-6. Brillion’s defense also slowed down Quinn Wesenberg, who entered the game averaging nearly 22 points.
Brillion (10-3, 7-0) is back on their homecourt Friday against Two Rivers (4-11, 3-4) for a conference game.
