MANITOWOC – A 70-year old Manitowoc man was pronounced dead at the scene after he was struck by a semi on County CR in the Town of Newton.

It happened at 1 a.m. Saturday, February 2. Manitowoc County Sheriff Dan Hartwig said a northbound semi, driven by a 52-year old Manitowoc man, struck James Eberhardt on CR just south of Viebahn Street. Eberhardt was dead at the scene.

The semi was hauling milk for Wiese Trucking of Lomira.

The sheriff’s department, State Patrol, and the Manitowoc County Coroner’s office are finishing up the investigation. Neither speed nor alcohol use are believed to be factors in the crash, according to the sheriff.

The Newton Fire Department, Newton EMS First Responders, Manitowoc Fire & Rescue, Manitowoc Police, and Manitowoc County Highway Department all worked at the crash scene.
