TOWN OF NEWTON – A 39-year old motorcycle rider was killed last Friday, July 26, when the driver of a Chevy Suburban crossed the centerline to avoid colliding with a car – and instead collided with a motorcycle.

It happened shortly before 10 a.m. on Manitowoc County CR, just north of Clover View Road. A 17-year old Newton girl was driving south on CR when she swerved to avoid hitting a southbound car in front of her. The car was slowing to make a turn onto Clover View Road.

The girl’s vehicle swerved into the path of a northbound 1994 Honda motorcycle operated by Ryan Tadych, 35, of Manitowoc. He was thrown by the impact of the collision. He was taken by ambulance to Holy Family Memorial Hospital in Manitowoc, then airlifted by ThedaStar to the ThedaCare Regional Trauma Center in Neenah.

Doctors were unable to save his life. He had been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department, Wisconsin State Patrol and the Manitowoc County Coroner’s Office.

Sheriff Dan Hartwig thanks the Newton Fire Department, Newton Area EMS First Responders, Manitowoc Fire/Rescue, Manitowoc County Highway Department and Hi-Way 42 Garage for their work at the scene.

The sheriff also reminded people to drive at safe speeds, wear seatbelts, and avoid distracted driving. Tadych’s death was the 11th of 2019 on Manitowoc County roads and highways.
