Motorcyclist killed in Town of Chilton crash

CHILTON – A 55-year old Chilton man, James. K. Schwamer, was killed Sunday when a van turned left in front of him as he was operating a motorcycle north of Chilton.

Calumet County Coroner Michael Klaeser said Schwamer died shortly after he was admitted to the ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah by the ThedaStar EMS helicopter.

The crash happened at the intersection of State 57/32 and County E, in the Town of Chilton, just after 10 a.m. Sheriff’s deputies said that the van was southbound and the motorcycle northbound, when the van turned left into the path of the motorcycle.

The victim’s wife, Dawn Schwamer, is hospitalized with multiple injuries.

The van was driven by a 33-year old Milwaukee area man, who was not injured, A woman in his van was injured, but not seriously, and was taken to the Calumet Medical Center.

An investigation continues, but the sheriff’s department does not believe that alcohol was a factor.
