No survivors in I-43 crash

TOWN OF NEWTON, Manitowoc County – There were no survivors in a two vehicle crash on I-43, south of Manitowoc County C, on the afternoon of Thursday, January 25.

It happened just after 3:35 p.m. when a southbound Chevrolet pickup went through the median and collided with a northbound Ford van.

Killed were the driver of the pickup truck, who was alone in his vehicle, a 40-year old man from rural Whitelaw; the driver of the van, a 62-year old Manitowoc man; and the passenger in the van, a 33-year old woman.

All three were trapped and had to be extricated. The pickup driver and the van passenger were dead at the scene. The van driver was flown by Theda Star EMS to Theda Clark Regional Medical Center in Neenah, but he also perished. No names are being released.

The crash is under continuing investigation by the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department, the Wisconsin State Patrol,  and the Manitowoc County Coroner’s Office.

I-43 was closed for four hours because of the crash.

Also assisting at the scene were the Newton Fire Department, Newton EMS First Responders, Valders Ambulance, Manitowoc Fire & Rescue, Manitowoc County Highway Department, and Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department.
