Arthur “Art” W. Behnke, Sr., age 70, of Brillion, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at his residence, surrounded by his family.
Art was born on April 26, 1948 in Manitowoc County, son of the late Elroy Sr. and Norma (Schmidt) Behnke. He was a graduate of Reedsville High School, class of 1967. On January 15, 1972, he married Janice Schneider at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz. Art worked at the Brillion Iron Works for 43 years before his retirement. Art and Jan enjoyed many things together: bowling, ceramics, hunting, golfing, fishing, traveling, playing pool, woodworking, and watching their grandchildren. He was young at heart, and was born to be his grandson Zachery’s hero.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Janice of Brillion; their children and spouses: Jo Ann & Tony Wilson of Georgia, Arthur Jr. of Brillion, and Jane & Howie Stelzer of Taus; grandchildren: Mason and Megan Wilson, Nicole and Samantha Behnke, and Zachery Stelzer; one great-granddaughter: Caelli Behnke; three sisters and brother-in-law: Norma Jean Howe, Geraldine Behnke, and Mary (Chris) Schmidt; five brothers and sisters-in-law: Robert, Donald, James (Sara), John (Carol), Richard (Kim); sister-in-law and spouse: Carol (Ted) Meyer; brothers-in-law and spouses: Paul (Cheri) and Scott (Terry) Schneider; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: Elroy Jr., Gerald, and Paul Lee, his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Norman and Bernice (Rosie) Schneider, one brother-in-law: Gene Schneider, and other relatives.
Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Brillion. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Tom Pomeroy.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
