OBITUARY: Betty Joyce (Mumm) Wolf

Betty Joyce (Mumm) Wolf was called home to Heaven on July 18, 2021, at her home in Brillion. She was born on June 28, 1926, in Stevens County, MN, the daughter of Henry and Frances (Nieland) Mumm. She was baptized on July 25, 1926 and confirmed on March 17, 1940.



After graduating from Morris High School in 1944, Betty worked in communications for United Airlines in Chicago, IL. She then attended Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN, graduating in 1950. She taught at St. John Lutheran School, Glencoe, MN, in 1947-48 and at Trinity Lutheran School, Brillion from 1950-53 and 1962-72.


She married Harold J. Wolf on June 28, 1953, in Sanborn, MN. They were privileged to celebrate over 53 years together. Harold preceded her in death on February 10, 2007.


She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Brillion where she belonged to the Ladies Aid. She was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society and served as Secretary on the International Board of Directors from 1982-86. She was also an active member of the Organization of WELS Lutheran Seniors, the Brillion Historical Society, and the American Legion Auxiliary.


Betty was a devoted Christian wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed attending her grandsons' athletic events and musical programs. She and Harold enjoyed their many trips and were longtime season ticket holders for the Green Bay Packers. She also enjoyed reading, working crossword and sudoku puzzles, and remembering family and friends with greeting cards and notes on their birthdays and anniversaries.


Harold and Betty were blessed with a daughter who survives her – Rebecca (Becky) and Kenneth Jungwirth of Appleton, and their sons, Andrew of Verona, WI, and Matthew of Appleton. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers – Mary Grotjohn, Brainerd, MN; Marjorie Lemke, Ft. Atkinson, WI; Rev. James (Gail) Mumm, La Crosse, WI; Beverly (Grant) Gulseth, Sonora, CA; Sandra Bellig, Sanborn, MN, and Mark (Sandra) Mumm, Andover, MN; as well as cousins and many nieces and nephews and their families.


She was preceded in death by a grandson, Peter Jungwirth; sister-in-law: Dianne Mumm; brothers-in-law: Miles Grotjohn, Willard Lemke, and Gordon Bellig; brothers and sisters-in-law: Harvey and Anita Wolf, Clarence and Johanna Wolf; nephews: Philip Mumm and Warren Wolf; and nieces: Terry Wolf and Susan Fischer.


Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Brillion. Officiating at the Service will be the Rev. Ross Henzi and the Rev. Thomas Fricke with burial to follow at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, Brillion. The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pielhop Wieting Funeral Home, Brillion, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2021. Friends may also call Saturday morning, July 24, 2021, at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Brillion, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Betty’s name. Online condolences may be made.


The family wishes to thank Heartland Hospice and the doctors and nurses who assisted in taking care of Betty.


The Pielhop Wieting Funeral Homes of Brillion & Reedsville is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
