OBITUARY: Dale E. Nies

Dale E. Nies, age 73, passed away at home on February 3, 2020 with his family by his side after a battle with AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia).


He was born in Green Bay to the late Jerome E. & Bernadine C. (Kabat) Nies on October 17, 1946. Dale was a graduate of Brillion High School, Class of 1964 and then attended Fox Valley for accounting. He married Cheri Lynne Richter on October 25, 1967 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Brillion. Together they have three wonderful children. Dale was a member of Holy Family Parish in Brillion where he ushered for many years and served on various committees. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially attending the grandchildren’s sporting events and school activities. Very seldom did he miss any. He was an active member of the Brillion Lions Club since 1976 and Club Secretary for 41 years. Dale served our country in the Army Reserves for 7 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 126 Brillion and AMVETS Post 1032 Reedsville. Deer hunting up North was a special time for getting together with his sons, brothers-in-law, nephews and cousin Craig Scharbarth. Dale enjoyed watching the Brillion Lions, Packers, Badgers and Brewers. Dale accepted a position with First Northern Savings Bank in Brillion (formerly Bank Mutual) and worked there for 35 years until his retirement in 2010.


Dale is survived by his wife Cheri of 52 years; their children: Victoria (Timothy) Giesseman, Appleton, Brian Nies and Christopher (Jennifer) Nies, Brillion; five grandchildren: Joshua (friend Alicia) and Emily Giesseman; Kaicin Nies Carter; Cailey and Helena Nies. He is further survived by 2 sisters: Betty Nies of Brillion and Diane (Dan) Cross of West Jacksonsport; sisters-in-law: Carla Zander of Brillion and Carrie (Jeff) Krueger of Potter; brothers-in-law: Charles Richter of Brillion and Michael (Coreen) Richter of Sherwood; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Bernie and father Jerry, father-in-law and mother-in-law: Carl (Jiggs) and Helen Richter; and a brother-in-law: Noel Zander.


Mass of Christian Burial for Dale will be held at Noon on Monday, February 10, 2020 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Brillion.  A visitation will be held at church from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Burial will be at Brillion Community Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.wieting-funeralhome.com.


The family would like to thank the following for the wonderful care and compassion extended to Dale during his illness: Cancer TEAM Bellin Health – especially Dr. Mortara & staff, infusion nurses, lab nurses, and receptionists. They are all very special individuals. Thank you to Heartland Hospice, Julie, Nicole, Karon, Christina, William, and all other nurses that cared for Dale. Also thanks to the many friends and loved ones for their kind words, cards, visits, phone calls and prayers. The Wieting Funeral Home of Brillion is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.


We’ve walked through rain and we’ve walked through sun. But we’ve always walked through it hand in hand. We are all going to miss you very much. Love ya.
