Obituary: Darlyene Lau

Darlyene Lau, age 85, of Reedsville, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Aurora BayCare Medical Center, Green Bay.

Darlyene was born on September 30, 1937 in the town of Rockland, daughter of the late Rueben and Verona (Weichert) Reinke. She attended Lowell Grade School and Reedsville High School, graduating in 1955. Darlyene continued her education at St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Racine, graduation on September 6, 1958. She married Harland on September 20, 1958 at St. John St. James Lutheran Church in Reedsville. He preceded her in death on August 2, 2010. In October of 1958, Darlyene started her working career at Memorial Hospital in Manitowoc. Throughout the years, she worked as a nurse at Memorial Hospital, Holy Family Memorial Hospital, Home Care and Health Services and Hospice, and Wayside Park Estates, retiring in 2008. She and Harland also farmed for a few years on her Dads’ farm until they moved to the other side of Reedsville. Darlyene and Harland had four children of their own and were foster parents to many other children over the years. She also volunteered at church and was a very active member: serving in the Ladies Aide, singing in the choir, LWMS and setting up communion. She also helped with hot lunch at the Lutheran grade school and high school. One of her loves, beside her husband and family, was music. She often would sing with her husband or sister, Dorothy Schnell for weddings, funerals, church events, and even played in the Wayside Reedsville Band. Her children have fond memories of Mom and Dad singing at their weddings.
