Obituary: Dorothy “Dottie” Alida (Bock) Unbehaun

Dorothy “Dottie” Alida (Bock) Unbehaun, age 95 of Brillion, formerly of Lone Rock, Richland Center, Madison and Sturgeon Bay passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, August 17, 2023.



Dottie was born on September 5, 1927 in Shullsburg, WI. to the late Harold “Duke” and Dorothy (Jones) Bock. She graduated from Lone Rock, WI High School in 1945. After graduation from high school, she attended Madison Business College and worked as a secretary for Rider Realty Company in Madison, WI.


In 1951, she married Gaylord Unbehaun. To this union three children were born- DuWayne, Kristie and Nordehl.


In 1974, Dottie graduated from University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She taught in Kiel, WI for 23 years. After retirement she volunteered at Reedsville Elementary School, Brillion Elementary Library, Brillion Food Pantry and Faith United Methodist Church.


She is survived by her children: DuWayne (Tina) Unbehaun of Oshkosh, Kristie (Dick) Jelinski of Stevens Point and Nordehl (Susan) Unbehaun of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren: Emily (Dan) Weiland, Hillary (Nic) Hansen, Derek Jelinski, Alyssa Jelinski, Gabrielle Unbehaun (Will Jackson), Grace (Troy) Herriman, Ciarra (Matt) Bowman and great grandchildren Abe, Cambrie, Avi, Cannen, Crew and Annabella. Dottie was preceded in death by her husband Gay (November 16, 2014), her parents Duke and Dorothy (Jones) Bock, her infant brother, and her in- laws Helen and Keith Unbehaun.


Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Faith United Methodist Church, 204 Horn Street, Brillion. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Entombment will be at Appleton Highland Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established at a later time.
