OBITUARY: Erhardt “Art” Wordell

Erhardt “Art” Wordell, age 90, of Brillion, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Appleton.

He was born on May 23, 1928 in the Town of Maple Grove, son of the late Hubert and Gertrude (Boeder) Wordell.  On April 21, 1956, he married Audrey Thurow at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brillion.  Erhardt served our country in the United States Army from 1953-1955.  Upon his return, he worked at the Combined Locks Paper Mill until his retirement.  He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Brillion, and the Becker Bloedorn Jensen American Legion Post #126 of Brillion and served on the funeral Honor Guard, volunteered for the Brillion Historical Society, was a member of the West Maple Grove Hunting Club for over 50 years, and was a member of the Wisconsin Steam and Antique Engine Club.  Erhardt was proud to have been on the June 18, 2015, Old Glory Honor Flight, mission 30, to Washington DC with his daughter Sandy.  He loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Audrey of Brillion; their children and spouses: Sue (Russ) Cherney, Steve (Janelle) Wordell, and Sandy (Rich) McWilliams, all of Brillion; grandchildren: Ryan (Nicole) Cherney, Amanda (Eric) Schroeder, Erica (Adam) Faris, Abby (Andy) Gipp, Kyle (Kayla) Wordell, Robbie (Gina) Wordell, Jessy (Rick) Humke, and Crystal McWilliams and special friend Austin; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother-in-law: LaVerne Triechel and Elaine (Erwin) Waack all of Brillion; three sisters-in-law: Diane Wordell, Barb Thurow, and Jeannette Boeselager; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother: Elroy Wordell, one sister, Irene Decker, and four brothers-in-law: Jim Decker, Norbert Triechel, Bob Thurow, and Dave Boeselager.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brillion.  Rev. Phillip Janisch and Rev. Ross Henzi will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.  Military Rites will be accorded by the Becker Bloedorn Jensen Post #126 of Brillion.

Friends may call Thursday evening at the church from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. In Lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Erhardt’s name.
