OBITUARY: James “Jim” Anthoney Burich

James “Jim” Anthoney Burich, age 78, of Reedsville, was called home to eternal rest after an 8-year battle with cancer on Sunday morning, September 20, 2020. 


James was born on February 24, 1942 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and was the son of the late Adolph and Anna (Radey) Burich.  He was a graduate of Reedsville High School, class of 1960.  He served our country in the United States National Guard from 1963-1969, where he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant E6.  On July 23, 1966, he married Barbara Ann Behnke at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Reedsville. Following high school, James worked at the Brillion Canning Company, followed by Mirro Foley in Manitowoc, and Rent-A-Truck in Brillion, finishing his career at Tecumseh in New Holstein in 2004.  He belonged to the Manitowoc County Lakes Association, the Long Lake Association, Reedsville Jaycees, Brillion Historical Society, Maple Grove Hunting Club, and Holy Family Catholic Parish.  James enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting arrowheads, metal detecting, watching the Packers, traveling all over the world with his wife Barbara, and spending time with his family.

James is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara of Reedsville; two sons and daughters-in-law: Jodi (Lotche) of Hanover, MN and Scott (Wendy) of Mount Calvary; granddaughters: Madison (special friend Hunter), Olivia, Anna, Abigail, and Elise; brothers and sisters-in-law: Raymond (La Verne) of Green Bay, Wilbert (Delores) of DePere, Robert (Rosalie) of Manitowoc, Shirley Burich of Valders, Betty (John) Blatz of Chilton; brothers-in-law: Lyle (Linda) Behnke of Stockbridge and Marvin Olp of Reedsville; Godchildren: Rachel Burich, Jennifer Hofschild, and Keith Burich, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.  He was preceded in death by one brother: Leonard; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Elroy and Esther (Reinke) Behnke; one sister-in-law: LaVonne (Behnke) Olp; and one nephew: Mark Burich.

A visitation will take place Saturday morning, September 26, 2020, from 9:00 am until 10:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church in Brillion. Father Tom Pomeroy will be officiating. Military Rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 126 of Brillion. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Reedsville.

All monetary contributions to the family will be donated to the Holy Family Catholic Parish Capital Improvements Campaign. James’ family thanks you for your prayers and support during this time.
