OBITUARY: Joan R. Nass

Joan R. Nass, age 80, of Bellevue, formerly of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Monday, January 18, 2016 at her son and daughter-in-law’s residence in Bellevue where she has resided the past 14 months.


Joan was born on April 27, 1935 in Valders. She was the daughter of the late Hillary and Bernice Erickson Zutz Sr. Joan was a graduate of Valders High School with the class of 1953. She had been employed with Stangels Super Market and later with Aitken Reed. On September 10, 1960 she married Charles O. Nass at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church in Collins. He preceded her in death on June 28, 2002. Joan was a member of First German Ev. Lutheran Church, First German Ladies Aid and served with the alter committee of the church. Joan was also a member of the Meadow Links Golf League for many years. She was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and the Wisconsin Badgers. Joan enjoyed following and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events in Green Bay. While residing in Manitowoc on Richmond Avenue, Joan got together with her neighbors on a monthly basis playing cards which she thoroughly enjoyed and looked forward to.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: David and Dianne Nass, Bellevue; three grandchildren: Jamie, Jordan, and Britney; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Ronald and Annie Zutz, Valders; Roger and Kathy Zutz, Valders; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Carol and Robert Gvorak, Sturgeon Bay; Elaine and Alex Lau, Brillion; numerous nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Hillary and Bernice Zutz; her husband: Charles Nass; two brothers: Gerald and Hillary Zutz Jr.

Funeral services will be held 5 p.m. on Friday, January 22, 2016 at First German Ev. Lutheran Church, 1033 South 8th Street, Manitowoc. Officiating will be Rev. Benjamin Schaefer and Rev. Christopher Hoppe. Burial will take place on Monday morning at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at First German Ev. Lutheran Church on Friday from 3:30 p.m. until the time of services at 5 p.m. Following the funeral service there will be a dinner held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center, 620 North Water Street, located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home.
