Obituary: Loney “Sonny” O. Zarling

Loney “Sonny” O. Zarling, age 87, an Appleton resident, died Sunday morning, November 7, 2021 at his residence.


He was born on July 28, 1934 in Gillette, son of the late Reinhold and Anita (Braidl) Zarling. On September 25, 1954 he married the former Norma Kriescher in Oconto Falls. Loney worked for farmers in the area at the beginning of their marriage. He then went to work at the Brillion Iron Works in the maintenance department until his retirement. In his spare time, he also owned and operated a landscaping business. Loney enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife: Norma, Appleton; their children: Loney Michael (Bonnie), Chilton, Ronald (Betty), Forest Junction, Donald, Brillion, Carol (Steve) Revoir, Kaukauna, Karen (Joseph) Hartl, Brillion; grandchildren: James, Matthew (Rachel), Brianna (Alex) Casey, Ashley (Chris) Dudley, Amber, Crystal (Jacob) Hedrick, John (fiancé Tiffany); great grandchildren: Chantel, Olivia, Braden, Everly, Karli, Camron, Karter, Codee, Lily, Aiden and Zoey, and soon to be great-grand baby; a sister and four brothers-in-law: Dorothy (Melvin) Francious, Pembine, Brian (Gloria) Kriescher, Morgan, Butch (Judy) Kriescher, Florida, Tommy (Vicki) Kriescher, Florida; a sister-in-law: Sue Kriescher, Little Chute; and other relatives.

He was also preceded in death by two children: Kathy Zarling and John Zarling; a granddaughter: Nicole; a daughter-in-law: Janelle Zarling; four sisters and brothers-in-law: Viola (Anthony) Szmanski, Arlene (Joe) Mitchell, Grace (Ed) Sutrick, Caroline (Lowell) Wians; and in-laws: Dick (Shirley) Kriescher, Billy (Jenny) Kriescher, Danny Kriescher, and Bernard Kriescher.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 14, 2021 at the Pielhop Wieting Funeral Home, Brillion. Officiating at the Service will be Deacon Greg Van Thiel with entombment at Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth.

The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pielhop Wieting Funeral Home, Brillion, from 12:00 noon on Sunday, November 14, 2021 until the time of the service.

Online condolences may be made. The Pielhop Wieting Funeral Homes of Brillion and Reedsville is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
