Neale Hans Caflisch, 99, of Menasha, WI, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2023 surrounded by friends and loved ones.
Neale was born November 15, 1923, to Florian and Lily Caflisch in Milwaukee, WI. He was raised on the family farm near Brillion, WI, attending high school through his graduation in 1941. Neale enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in 1942 at age 19, serving until 1945 as a 2nd Lieutenant and pilot of B-24 bomber aircraft.
Neale married Elizabeth (Bette) Woods of Corning, NY in 1945. Neale and Bette had five children, William (Jolene), Stephen, Neale II (Sandy), Clark (Jill) and Carrie.
Neale was a colorful character, having lived life to its fullest. He enjoyed many interests and hobbies including playing bridge, woodworking, assorted construction projects, singing in church and professionally (most notably with Lawrence Duchow’s Orchestra), public speaking about his WWII experience, many years as a volunteer/guide at the EEA museum in Oshkosh, a member of the Faith United Methodist Church of Neenah, a member of the American Legion, and spending time at his rustic cabin in the north woods. Most recently, he was honored as the Parade Marshall for the 2022 Neenah-Menasha Memorial Day Parade.
Professionally, Neale spent most of his working life in technical sales in the paper industry, namely in materials, fabrication and engineering, retiring at age 70.
Neale was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marguerite (Bulgrin), and wife Bette in 2001.
Neale is survived by his loving wife, Julie (Moderson-Edwards) Caflisch (married 2012), his five children; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 5 step-children; and 5 step -grandchildren.
Please join us for Neale’s celebration of life at Faith United Methodist Church, 1025 Tullar Road, Neenah, WI, on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. Visitation begins at 10 AM, with a service at 11:30 and a luncheon to follow.
