Ralph E. Schmitting, age 68, a Brillion resident, died Monday afternoon, January 30, 2023 at ThedaCare Medical Center, Neenah.
He was born on April 17, 1954 in Hilbert, son of the late August and Ida (Krueger) Schmitting. Ralph was a graduate of Hilbert High School, Class of 1973. On August 30, 1986 he married the former Denise Lau at Trinity EV. Lutheran Church, Brillion. Ralph was employed at Brillion Iron Works for over 44 years, starting during high school and working until it closed in 2016. He was a member of the USW Union and was an avid Wisconsin sports fan. Ralph enjoyed gardening, lawncare, playing cards and camping trips. He especially loved his family and took pride in being a father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife: Denise Schmitting, Brillion; two daughters and a son-in-law: Danielle (Kyle) Guthrie, Brillion, Ashley (significant other Ramiro) Schmitting, Appleton; and his grandchildren: Wyatt and Reese Guthrie and with another one on the way. Also surviving are his in-laws: Roxane (James) Schmitting, Kaukauna and Don Busse, Reedsville.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester Schmitting, Roger Schmitting, Gerald Schmitting; a sister: Dorothy DuPrey; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Delbert and Rita Lau; in-laws: Thyrone Lau, Evey Busse, Daryl (Christine) Lau and four nephews: Russell Schmitting, Jeff Schmitting, David Schmitting and Lester “Bud” Schmitting.
Funeral Services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Trinity EV. Lutheran Church, Brillion. Officiating at the Service will be the Rev. Ross Henzi and the Rev. Thomas Fricke with burial to take place in the church cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends at church from 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 5, 2023 until 4:45 p.m.
