OBITUARY: Raymond F. Geiger

Raymond F. Geiger, age 83, of Brillion, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital surrounded by his family.


Ray was born on October 7, 1932 in Manitowoc, son of the late Frank and Mary (Dvorachek) Geiger.  He was a graduate of Brillion High School, class of 1950.  At a young age, he went to live by his uncle Joe Dvorachek to help him on the farm. Ray left the farm to serve our county in the United States Army in 1954-1955.  When he came home, he met and married Shirley Fischer on June 14, 1958 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Reedsville.  Ray worked as a painter at Saunders and Ryder. He was a truck driver for Chizek Trucking, retiring in 1995.  Ray was a member of the American Legion Post 126 of Brillion, Catholic Knights, the Knights of Columbus, the West Maple Grove Hunting Club, the Long Lake Association, and Holy Family Catholic Church.  Ray enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, the Brewers and Packers, going for rides on the pontoon, playing cards with friends, and picking hickory nuts.  One of his hobbies was making canes from prickly Ash. And he especially loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandson.

Ray is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley of Brillion; their children: David (Nancy) of Brillion, Donna (Joe) Bauer of Amberg, Jodi (Darren) Vandehei of Oneida, and Jay (Stacy) of Brillion; grandchildren: Bryan Geiger of Forest Junction, Rachel (Ken) Yingling of Neenah, Christine (Nick) Peronne of Plymouth, Rylan Vandehei of Oneida, and Hope and Dan Geiger of Brillion; one great-grandson: Caleb Yingling of Neenah; two sisters: Alice Hoyer of Brillion and Audrey O’Neil of Green Bay; two sisters-in-law: Judy Fischer of AZ and Lorraine Geiger of Brillion; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. 

He was preceded in death by two children: Diane and Jeffrey, one grandson: Quentin,  twin granddaughters: Josephine and Emily, three brothers and two sisters-in-laws: Joe Geiger, Harold (Lorraine) Geiger, Francis Geiger, and Marlene Fischer, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Harvey and Emily (Baroun) Fischer.

A Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Brillion.  Officiating will be the Rev. Timothy Brandt.  Military Rites will be accorded by the Bloedorn, Becker, Jensen American Legion Post 126 of Brillion.  Ray has been cremated and will be laid to rest at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery. 

Friends may call at the church on Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
