OBITUARY: Raymond G. Schwahn

Raymond G. Schwahn, 88, of Reedsville, died on March 8, 2021.



He was born on December 28, 1932 in the town of Maple Grove in Manitowoc County, to the late Ehrfried “Fritz” and Olga (Mack) Schwahn. Raymond married Barbara Johnson on May 21, 1955, at Zion Lutheran Church, Wayside and lived near Menchalville their entire married life. They enjoyed traveling and had many GREAT memories of their vacations with families and friends. Raymond served in the United States Army. For most of his life, Raymond was a dairy farmer and also dehorned cattle for many years. Being a life long member of Zion Lutheran Church in Wayside he served on many committees and offices. He was also a member of the Reedsville Sportsman Club and Menchalville Fire Department. Raymond finally retired from farming in 1997. Raymond was also able to enjoy living in their new home he and Barbara built until recently residing at Parkview Estates in Wayside.


Raymond is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Ruth Schwahn, Menchalville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and Jeff Lensmeyer, Francis Creek; Rita and Gary Robley, Menchalville; Ranee and Mark Thelen, Whitelaw; 13 grandchildren; Matt, Crystal, Josh, Zach and Stephanie; Scott, Beth and Cody; Casie, Derek, and Caden; Brandon and Megan; 15 great-grandchildren, soon to be 17, two brothers and sister-in-law, Edward (Gail) Schwahn, Milton Schwahn, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda (Harold) Schachel, Betty (Bob) Havlovitz, and brother and sister-in-law Bob and Karalyn Johnson, and is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.


He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, who he lovingly and compassionately took care of after her stroke for 9.5 years, one son, Bruce, one grandson, Justin Robley, sisters and brothers-in-law Caroline (Jim) Lorrigan and Dorothy (Pete) Peterson, sister-in-law Jean Schwahn.


Family and friends may visit Zion Lutheran Church of Wayside from 9:00 A.M to 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 13, 2021. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 A.M. The burial will follow the service.


Special thanks to Parkview Estates, Rivers Bend Health and Rehab, and Heartland Hospice. The family would like to give a special Thank You to Jane from Heartland Hospice for her love and care she gave to Mom and Dad over the years.


Dad was a man of strong faith and integrity. He taught us to have a strong work ethic and to respect the value of a dollar, but most of all, he instilled in his family a strong faith in God that will be passed down through the generations.
