On-line presentation for I-41 expansion

The Brillion News

The state Department of Transportation will host an on-line presentation on Wednesday, May 13, at 5 p.m. to lay out its plans for expanding and upgrading I-41 from the Fox River Mall area north to De Pere.

Many of the handouts available to the public are available on line at wisconsindot.gov/I41project.

The project includes nine existing interchanges, including at County U and County S in the Wrightstown area. Some design changes for interchanges will be considered.

The state is also considering a Brown County request to add an interchange between De Pere and the County S (Freedom Road) interchange to connect with the future "South Brown County Bridge" that Brown County plans to cross the Fox River between De Pere and Wrightstown.

The freeway itself is currently a four-lane roadway, with two lanes in each direction. The DOT plans to consider rebuilding it as a four-lane freeway or widening it to six lanes - three in each direction.

The May 13 meeting is the first of two public meetings planned. The next one would be in September of 2020, with a formal public hearing in April of 2021. Final design work will be done in 2022-2024, with coknstruction dates to be determined.
