CHILTON – The Calumet and Manitowoc County Extension Offices have scheduled a Private Applicator Training session on Wednesday, March 6. This is the only session scheduled for Calumet/Manitowoc County for this spring. The session will run from 9 a.m. to approximately 3:30 p.m. at the Calumet County Courthouse, 206 Court St., Chilton.
The class will be held in the basement, room 025. The best access is by parking on the west side of the courthouse and entering through the west entrance doors. Check-in will begin at 8:45 a.m.
Anyone planning to take the course should stop by the Calumet County or Manitowoc County Extension offices to register and pick up the manual at least one week prior to the session.
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Cost for the manual and certification process, including your license, is $30.00 and is payable at the time of registration. On the day of training, be sure to bring your manual, social security number, driver’s license, and a calculator.
Under both federal and state laws, certain pesticide applicators must be certified before they can legally use and apply pesticides.
Under FIFRA, the federal law that governs pesticide use across the country, anyone who wants to use a Restricted-Use Pesticide (RUP) must be certified. To prove that one has been trained in how to use RUPs properly, safely and legally, a person must pass an exam that shows a broad knowledge of how to use pesticides correctly.
People applying pesticides “for-hire” need to be certified to apply any pesticide, RUP or not. In Wisconsin, certification is valid for five years and people need to recertify if they want to continue using pesticides.
