Rudy's has pending sale

The Brillion News

BRILLION – There is a pending sale for the Rudy's Cafe building and nearby house, owner Maxine Charney announced on social media.

The final day that she will have Rudy's open as owner will be Sunday, July 6.

“If anything changes before that time, I'll keep everyone posted,” Charney wrote. “This is very emotional for me as this has been my life for 14 years. God bless you all.”

Charney, a Door County native, met Martin Johnson, a Minneapolis native, while working at a Marc's Big Boy in the Twin Cities. The two got married and made it their dream to own a restaurant together.

“We always said, 'We're going to own our own restaurant someday,'” Charney previously told the newspaper.

That came true on May 26, 2011, when Charney and Johnson purchased Rudy's from Kevin and Rosemary Clarke.

“I'll miss everything because I've cooked, I've waitressed,” Charney said. “I do everything so it's not just the people, it's the restaurant itself. The things that you do.”

Future plans for the building from new ownership are not known at this time.
