MANITOWOC – A 75-year old Town of Manitowoc Rapids man died Thursday night, January 18, with fresh water drowning and hypothermia the likely causes.

Manitowoc County Chief Deputy Coroner Jeffrey Schroeder said there is no concern about foul play with the death of James Schneck.

The sheriff’s department was dispatched to a home in Manitowoc Rapids at 8:20 p.m. Thursday evening to check on Schneck’s welfare after he failed to show up for a previously-scheduled meeting.

Deputies found his body in a partially frozen pond on his land. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff’s department, coroner, Franch Fire Department, Valders Fire Department, Manitowoc Fire-Rescue and Branch EMS First Responders all attended at the scene.
