TOWN OF MAPLE GROVE – Fire struck a large shed barn – filled with fresh straw – shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday, drawing firefighters from departments in three counties.

The fire at the corner of Hickory Hills Road and Herzog Road forced the closure of several town roads as water tankers ferried water from Round Lake to the fire scene.

The farm is owned by Donald and Dennis Kocourek

The fire was in the Brillion Fire District, but the fire was also attended by firefighters and apparatus from numerous other departments – including Reedsville, Potter, Hilbert, Forest Junction, Chilton, Hollandtown, Greenleaf, Morrison, Wayside, Whitelaw and Collins.

Brillion and Chilton both dispatched aerial ladder trucks to attack the fire from above. Valders Ambulance stood by at the scene for firefighter safety.

Brillion Fire Chief Richard Jahnke said the structure was in flames when the first firefighters arrived. Fire crews were able to keep it from spreading to other buildings.
