Construction finishes on time and on budget
VALDERS - All major construction work on U.S. 151 between State 67 and Roosevelt Street in Manitowoc County is finished.
The state Department of Transportation said the $2.27 million project, which began on April 19, finished earlier than anticipated and on budget.
The contract gave the project contractor 35 work days to get the project done. Crews resurfaced U.S. 151 with a two-inch asphalt mill and overlay, widened the shoulders, repaired various culverts, replaced spot curb and gutter, added centerline rumbles strips, and replaced/repaired beamguard, pavement markings and permanent signing.
The project reduced surface roughness to provide a smoother driving surface for motorists. The asphalt overlay will extend to life of the existing pavement, and the addition of centerline rumble strips should enhance safety for motorists. The contractor will complete some minor project clean-up work and landscaping this week, but it will not impact traffic flow.
