Vandals damage Maribel Caves

The Brillion News

TOWN OF COOPERSTOWN – The Manitowoc County Crimestoppers Program is offering a $500 reward for information that leads to the arrest of anyone responsible for criminal vandalism to the Maribel Caves Park east of Maribel.

Manitowoc County Sheriff Robert Hermann said someone entered a cave in the park on or about July 13 by cutting off a lock that was designed to keep vandals out.

The New Hope Cave was extensively damaged – with rock formations in the cave broken off and removed.

The sheriff would like to find out the persons responsible, and the location of the stolen natural artifacts.

The Maribel Caves County Park is located just east of County R and north of State 147.

Tips about the vandalism can be called to Crime Stoppers at 920-683-4466.

The photo accompanying this story shows students from UWGB exploring a cave as a part of a geology class.
