Week 1 football: Brillion, Hilbert cruise to victory

The Brillion News

Brillion 46, Sturgeon Bay 0

Brillion scored on its first seven possessions to build a 46-0 lead and create a running clock by halftime.

Multiple Lions found the end zone including Jaxon Lisowe for the game’s first points.

Quarterback Joe Shimek found tight end Kelvin Gilbertson for a 29-yard score. Heath Cousin rushed away for a 37-yard touchdown.

Brenner Nett scored twice, the first from one yard out and the second from 69 yards out.

All of that was before the first quarter was even completed.

Weston Schmidt scored a 21-yard touchdown in the opening moments of the second quarter.

Cousin scored again on a long run, this time of 40 yards to make it 46-0.

Brillion’s starting defense held Sturgeon Bay to negative yardage in the first half.

“We’re an older, experienced group so we have a lot of players coming back,” Cousin said. “We knew what we had to do, and we were just happy to get that done tonight.”
